SIERRA VISTA, AZ -- Officials say the teamwork of two Arizona agencies helped catch a suspect found with marijuana in his vehicle in southern Arizona Friday.
According to the Department of Public Safety, around 11 a.m. a black Toyota Camry approached the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on State Route 90, about 12 miles north of Sierra Vista.
A drug-sniffing K-9 alerted to the vehicle and a Border Patrol agent instructed the driver to move the vehicle into a designated area.
Instead, the driver continued north on SR 90 and a US Border Patrol agent began chasing the vehicle, officials said.
A DPS officer was traveling southbound on SR 90 just south of Benson, when he saw a black Toyota Camry traveling northbound at over 110 mph, being pursued by a Border Patrol Agent.
Officials say the vehicle turned into the residential area of Cochise Terrace RV Park where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
The DPS Officer and US Border Patrol Agent began a foot chase through backyards and over fences.
The suspect was taken into custody as he attempted to crouch near a bush, officials said.
Officers found 163 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle.
Thomas Paul Baker, 36, of Kingman, was booked into the Cochise County Jail for possession and transportation of marijuana and felony flight.
