GILA BEND, AZ -- Authorities say one person died and another was rescued in a desert area near Gila Bend early Saturday.

Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Doug Matteson said that around 3 a.m. a 911 call was made regarding two undocumented immigrants on the Barry M. Goldwater air force training range, south of Gila Bend.

Matteson said a 39-year-old woman was in medical distress and her 19-year-old son called for help.

By the time they pair was located, the woman had died, according to Matteson.

He said the son was taken into custody by Border Patrol.

There was no word on how long the woman and teen had been traveling, or from where.
