Agents discover massive tunnel linking Nogales to Mexico

NOGALES, AZ – Border Patrol Agents discovered a massive tunnel leading between southern Arizona and Mexico, according to a Thursday report.

A concerned citizen reportedly contacted Border Patrol Agents a week ago after hearing construction activity through the wall of a building in Nogales. 

Agents responded and arrested two individuals caught cutting a hole in the floor, according to the report.

After further investigation, agents and an assisting construction crew discovered a massive tunnel. 

The tunnel is approximately 48 feet in length in the United States and 35 feet in length in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. 

The tunnel was constructed with side walls framed with 2x4 wooden studs, ceiling construction and a hose that provided ventilation. 

Between Fiscal Year 1995 and Fiscal Year 2008 there have been 47 separate tunnels identified in the Nogales Area.  This Fiscal Year which began October 1st, 2008 16 has been discovered in the same area.
