MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ – A semi-truck burst into flames south of Phoenix late Wednesday after Maricopa police and fire crews said the vehicle and minivan collided.
The accident reportedly occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the Maricopa Casa Grande Highway, just east of John Wayne Parkway.
According to Maricopa Police Spokesperson Stephen Judd, the driver of the minivan was traveling westbound on the highway when it collided with a semi-truck traveling in the opposite direction.
The crash caused the semi to ignite and by the time police and fire crews arrived, it was completely engulfed in flames, said Judd.
The 24-year-old male driver of the minivan was transported to a Phoenix hospital for serious injuries.
The 54-year-old male driver of the semi was transported to a Casa
Grande hospital for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police are currently investigating the accident and the cause has not yet been determined. No charges or citations have been brought to either driver at this time.
