Thieves in Coolidge have stolen some irreplacable items from the historical museum.

"It was just total disbelief," said Dan Reeder with the Coolidge Historical Society.

That's not a phrase you'd expect to hear when you think of the historical museum in Coolidge Arizona. But something has changed.

"We walked in on Wednesday morning, three of us, when I opened the door I discovered straight ahead was a showcase that was completely vacated," said Reeder.

The case was filled with Native American artifacts worth thousands of dollars.

"They had taken several items. They were not the normal types of things we have taken at most of our burglaries," said Lt. Roger Stinson from the Coolidge Police Department.

Besides the artifacts, a class ring, dog tags from a world war II veteran, and an old class picture that used to hang on the wall.

"Maybe, but probably not, but maybe we can get them back," hopes Reeder.

The thieves entered through the back, prying off the back wall and somehow sneaking past the security system.

"We're hoping someone knows something," said Stinson.

But the Coolidge Historical Society is taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"We have reinforced our outside wall, we have updated our alarm system completely.

All to keep the rest of Coolidge's history safe.
