FLORENCE, AZ – A Pinal County Corporal was arrested Monday for charges related to a domestic violence incident, according to officials.
Lieutenant Tamatha Villar with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the home of Corporal Able Porras late Sunday regarding a domestic disturbance that had allegedly taken place earlier that evening.
When deputies arrived, the victim reported that Porras had struck her in the face and head and would not allow her to call 9-1-1.
After investigators conducted their investigation, including several interviews, Porras was arrested and booked on charges of criminal damage, assault and preventing the use of 9-1-1, Villar said.
Corporal Porras, who has been a certified peace officer for 7 years, was immediately placed on paid administrative leave pending the completion of an internal affairs investigation.
"Deputies are not immune to family conflict and there are increased pressures in all family relationships however, violence is never the right answer." said Sheriff Paul Babeu. " Our deputies are charged with enforcing the law; they are clearly not above it."
