MESA, AZ -- Pinal County authorities are preparing for the day when the area southeast of Phoenix is home to 6 million residents.
A new comprehensive development plan is about to be submitted to the Board of Supervisors.
It concentrates on centralizing development, creating economic centers and linking it all with multiple methods of transportation.
Several employment centers are also designated throughout the county. Many run along rail lines, highways or freeways.
The county is also planning ahead for major and minor roadways, commuter rail, light rail, freight lines and bus service for local transportation.
Instead of seizing land in the future, planners say Pinal County is designating the land it needs now for future transportation needs.
