Arizona City man dies of cardiac arrest after being Tased

Reported by: Associated Press
Last Update: 8/25 6:37 am
PHOENIX -- Authorities have released the identity of man who died at a Casa Grande hospital after a Pinal County Sheriff's deputy deployed a Taser on him.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says 37-year-old T.J. Nance of Arizona City was pronounced dead at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center on Friday night about one hour after being shocked and apparently going into cardiac arrest.

They say Nance fled a DPS officer who attempted to conduct a traffic stop on him shortly after 9 p.m. Friday near Eloy.

The DPS officer was assisted by the Pinal County Sheriff's deputy when Nance tried to run into a nearby residence.

Authorities say Nance had an unknown substance stuck in his throat, which was removed and turned over to investigators.

His cause of death also is pending autopsy results from the Forensic Science Center in Tucson.
