95-year-old Valley man takes big leap from 12,000 feet

CASA GRANDE -- With the start of the propeller, a single engine plane takes off from the Casa Grande Airport.

"I'm a little nervous right now I will be honest with you, but I am excited for him," said Gary Potts.

Potts anxiously watches the skies for his 95-year-old grandfather, Lester.

"I'll feel 100 percent better when he gets down," Gary said.

The fun part, to Lester at least, is the way he's getting down.

At 95-years-old, Lester jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.

It's less than a minute before Lester's free fall from 12,000 feet takes him to 5,000 feet where he opens the chute.

Seeing that chute is a relief to the friends and family watching below.

Lester described the float to the ground like laying down in a bed full of pillows.

"I'll be running to him with the biggest hug you can ever imagine," said Gary.

Lester lands safe and sound back on the ground, just with a new hairdo.

"The first step is what kills you boy, and if you can survive the first step you're gonna make it all the way down," said Lester Potts.

At 95, Lester is the oldest ever to jump with Mark Sunman.

"I love taking the elderly skydiving they're fearless and they always do really good," said Sunman.

But if Lester gets his way, he'll break that record himself in five years.

"When I get 100, on my birthday I'm coming back out here and I'm doing it again," said Lester.

Lester Potts is living life to the fullest, for as long as he can.

"No regrets, not one bit," said Lester.
