If you see smoke north of the Valley later this week or early next, it may be from a prescribed burn being done by the
Bureau of Land Management.
Two burns are scheduled to reduce the risk of brush wildfires and increase public safety.
They will occur, depending on weather conditions, between April 30 and May 5.
The first burn will be just off Highway 89 north of Congress. The next burn is schedule at the Black Canyon City county transfer station.
To protect homes from wildfires, residents recently cleared excess and overgrown trees and shrubs that might otherwise catch fire, add fuel to a wildfire, and enable fires to travel to houses and other structures.
BLM fire personnel will ignite the piles when weather and vegetation conditions allow for safe burning.
Residents should expect some light smoke in the area during the burn operation and expect it to smolder for a few days.
Fire crews will remain on scene and monitor conditions for public safety.
