I just started driving the I-17 from Sedona to Scottsdale- (just moved) and I have to tell you, THIS INTERSTATE IS UNSAFE! I have driven all over- the 15 from vegas to LA, back east- and never have i seen more maniacal drivers, than on the I-17- whether or not the truck driver ran him off the road, its still unsafe- and when im doing 80- and a tractor trailer whizzes past me at 105- i have to wonder.... they really seem to "not care" and don't drive with any caution whatsoever- then there are us people, in our little cars, and suv's - driving like we are in germany.... there needs to be more awareness to this interstate- with spotty weather, and careless drivers, its just not a good combo....

Ya, I heard about the SUV where the seven passengers (undocumented immigrants) were ejected. I-17 doesn't seem to be very safe to drive on anymore either.

Azlady these are two differnt storys, the suv might of had a blow out causing it to roll over it was just out side phoenix, where the fire was further north by sunset point.

I was just watching the news on TV, and they are now saying that this U-Haul pulled off the road due to mechanical issues. They didn't mention that this vehicle was run off the road by a tractor trailer. Who ya gonna believe?

Tractor trailers, hum... I think they should be restricted to the right lanes only, and perhaps cut their speed limits back. I don't always agree with what California does, but I would be curious if they have less incidents involving semi (tractor trailers) trucks then we do here, with their speed limit and lane restriction laws applying to semi trucks. I would think the U-haul driver may have been inexperienced, otherwise that was really a lousy semi driver that forced them off the road. I've seen them pull some pretty ugly tricks as they try to go 3 miles faster than the truck they are passing up hill. Sure created a big enough mess for drivers and the fire fighters.

It probably will turn out to be the result of someone flicking their cigarette out of their vehicle...

Good observation AZBang. Maybe they are counting both lanes on both sides of the interstate!
