A traffic stop on a commercial truck turned into a marijuana bust on Interstate 17 north of the Valley Tuesday morning.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officers stopped the commercial vehicle near New River at around 12:45 a.m. for a traffic violation and inspection.
The driver of the semi, 39-year-old Anthony Moyd of Newark, New Jersey, told officers he had picked up the load of watermelons in Nogales, Arizona.
Officers checking out the truck found 508 pounds of marijuana wrapped in plastic in three bins toward the front of the trailer.
Moyd was booked on charges of possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana for sale and operating an illegal enterprise.
According to DPS, the commercial vehicle, owned by Coanel Trucking Company in New Jersey, was traveling from Nogales to Massachusetts.
