When I got to work this morning and read over the stories I was to announce on Daybreak -- one in particular made my jaw drop.
State Treasurer Dean Martin's wife died Monday following childbirth.
And now his newborn son has died.

But, when you know someone, or are acquainted with someone who's suffered a tragedy -- the reality is even more jarring.
Treasurer Martin has appeared on ABC15 Daybreak many times -- offering his expertise.
And, he's always been very nice -- a likable guy.
My heart goes out to him right now.
He and his wife of 13-years were expecting their first child together -- what should've been a joyous experience.
But, for some reason, Martin's wife Kerry died just a few hours after giving birth to their son Austin Michael Martin.
The complications that caused her death haven't been announced yet.
It's a real shock: a 34-year-old woman dying from complications of childbirth -- definitely not something you often hear about these days.
Again, my deepest condolences to Treasurer Martin for the loss of his wife.
