Let me begin by saying I am not the best bargain shopper.
It takes a lot of patience -- a virtue, I somewhat lack.
I have a friend who haggles over everything -- determined to get the seller to give her the lowest price possible.
Again, patience is my problem and I also find it hard to ask someone to lower their price.
Maybe I'm afraid of appearing like a "cheapskate."
Yesterday, I left my comfort zone and ventured out -- determined to get a smoking deal on four new tires for my SUV.
OK, I didn't really venture *out* -- I made a few phone calls ... protected by anonymity.
The tire center I normally do business with quoted me $955.
Ouch!
Another vendor quoted me $633.
Much better!
Wondering if I could score an even bigger discount, I called one more store and was given a quote of $571!
Yes!
The only problem -- they didn't have the tires in stock and it would take about a week to get them.
I'm thinking about a road trip this weekend -- so, I'm not loving the proposed wait.
So, I called store number one back and told them about my better quotes.
Guess what -- they matched the $571 (out the door: tax, mount and balance, roadside hazard insurance) and will install them for me tomorrow!
Lesson learned: Shop around, get at least three different quotes and don't be afraid to ask your favorite store (whatever kind it is) to price match.
