I think part of the reason why true journalism is starting to become a dying industry is because of the bias in the media. Instead of covering a lot of stories that really matter like a small business doing good in their community, a cat needing a good home or even a story that creates a positive vibe, the media has decided to concentrate it's focus on killings, fires, auto accidents, and a whole other host of other tragedies. Another problem with the media is their choice to cover big businesses and give them air time. What about small businesses? Are they only good enough for a 2 minute mention? So many small businesses work to do good in their community and for their customers yet the media sees fit to cover the big corps who advertise on their respective stations. The media seems to do whatever they can to chase the money instead of covering the stories that really matter. If an animal gets abused they're there to cover it. If a fire destroys a home, the media shows up. If someone is shot and killed the story airs. This is the direction news stations and printed media have chosen to take because they care more about revenue, ratings and what sells news than about the everyday feel good stories that take place in the community. If the media would stop covering the negative all the time then they'd get more respect from the viewers and probably have more balanced content but that seems like a hard pill to swallow for most news stations.

the demise of this paper and many others i agree is the result of the growth of internet sites that siphon away revinue. but the problem is not only for the printed word but the broadcast media with its instant dead lines rush to beat the other guy and capture media share. this results in quick fast reporting that may not have all the facts straight and leaves the reporter looking like a duff. your own station is lamb basted daily by the bloggers who think they have found errors in the reporting. the other problem is that i fear most stations are not increasing staff but reduceing the number of field reporters with bonfied gruaduate journalists and leaning towards citizens who may or may not be objective in the reports they file. in this age of sound bite journalism the money and time devote to massive investagations that once upon a time brought watergate to light are now becoming ancient history. and i am afraid that in the future the art of true journalism will go the way of the dodo bird. and broad cast journalism will be replaced by short 4 minute news bursts given by a talking head because management will need to sell programing that will bring them more viewers ie reality shows. the news outlets are now struglling with people out right stealing content and any one with a slanted view and a axe to grind is running around calling them selves a news outlet. news is rapidlly deteroating into nothing more than a gossip and slander sheet. and the folks who visit the web sights donot seem to be intrested in the facts of a story but voiceing their hate for anyone that does not hold their views or are from a different race or culture. i hope your carrer is long over before the death of broad castnews occures good luck.
