I rarely receive emails from city leaders just wanting to brag on their staff. But this one not only caught my attention, it touched my heart. He wasn't asking me for media coverage of these special volunteers he simply wanted to say thanks.
So, I want to share the special letter with all of you.
My name is Ken Rice and I would like to tell you about our volunteers.
I started here three years ago and was amazed at how dedicated the volunteers of the Fire Prevention Bureau are.
The Sun City Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau is staffed by 18 community volunteers that perform business inspections, home safety surveys, install smoke alarms, emergency lock boxes, and fire extinguishers.
They also do public presentations on topics of interest of the community including, fall prevention, fire safety, electrical safety, heat safety, candle safety, RV safety, summer power outage safety, and numerous other topics. We also perform a quality assurance call back program to ensure that we are doing the best job possible in the field.
The volunteers donate approximately 6000 hours per year doing the following activities:
Approximately 4000 business inspections, 1000 home safety surveys, installation of nearly 1000 different life saving devices including emergency medical lockboxes, smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers.
The volunteers also conduct public speaking presentations and life safety seminars throughout the year reaching out to nearly 5000 people.
The volunteers of the Fire Prevention Bureau are here only because they truly care about the Sun City Community; their work is a true testament to providing a better, safer, and more enjoyable level of living for senior citizens.
