There are two badges on this car that tell the story.
One says "Lexus".
The other says "hybrid."
Lexus makes other hybrids, a $50,000 SUV and a luxury sedan costing more than $100,000, but the hs250h is a small car...in fact, the smallest Lexus makes.
It's the size of a Toyota Prius. Exactly. Because they're both built on the same platform.
Differences? The Prius is a hatchback, the hs250h has a trunk.
And the hs250h is loaded with Lexus-style high-end features.
For instance, a forward-facing camera in the grille, which operates only at low speed and is meant to help you park without crunching the front end.
The hs250h is also more powerful than a Prius, but that drives down mileage. The EPA says 35 city, 34 highway.
Base price? $34,200, about $2,000 more than a Prius with everything. But start adding options to the Lexus and you can end up well over $40,000 very quickly.
