Inexpensive gift ideas for the holidays

Family traditions never seem to be more present than during the holidays.

Whether your family gathers around the TV to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” or makes loads of hot chocolate before decorating your tree, there is something you do every year that makes it feel like the holidays.

These traditions are more than just a way to get into the spirit of the season, they are also the perfect excuse for families to connect and spend precious time together.

Actress and mom, Lori Loughlin, has her own celebrated family traditions and unique gift ideas. Here are just a few of her favorites that help to shift the focus away from ‘buying’ and into a shared holiday experience.

  • Before Christmas, grab your family and get ready to spend the entire day in the kitchen. Have everyone pick their favorite holiday cookie recipe and make a few batches of each. Then hide one tin of everyone’s favorites and put them in their stocking Christmas morning. If you don’t hide them, they’ll be gone before the holiday arrives!

  • Go to the mall and find a name on one of the giving trees, then send everyone out shopping for the person they chose. It’s a fun activity and it also reminds everyone to be grateful for all they have.

  • Have your children make a holiday ornament for each other every year. Store them as keepsakes and then give them to your children when they have a home of their own.

  • Try to give gifts that encourage spending time with the person your giving them to. The memories and quality time together are much more valuable than the gift itself for both the giver and the receiver.
