What common household appliance causes thousands of fires each year? No, it’s not your stove; it’s your clothes dryer.

According to Dryer Vent Wizard, vents clogged with lint cause deaths and more than a $100 million worth of damage each year.

Chris Willey of Dryer Vent Wizard says a dryer vent is not just the tube at the back of your dryer. Almost all vents are tubes that lead up inside a wall and through an attic to the roof, in both new and older homes.

Many vents make several twists and turns and can travel as much as 50 feet or more to reach the roof.

Lint can spark a fire in a clogged dryer vent and a laundry room can be engulfed in flames in less than eight seconds. In some Valley homes dryer vents are tangled up around gas line hoses, which is further cause for alarm.

Nearly 95 percent of all homes inspected by the Dryer Vent Wizards have dryer vents that are manufactured incorrectly or damaged in some way.
