Many people develop what can only be referred to as the post-holiday blues.
During November and December homes are transformed into warm environments with fall leaves that turn to pine garland, beatifully decorated trees and holiday accents in every corner.
When the New Year arrives, all the inviting elements get packed up and put away for another year and the living space looks sterile, bare and uninviting.
However, before you get a bit of the blues, Kristin Alber of
Domestic Bliss says, "Use the time after the holidays is to do some redecorating! It is a great time to evaluate what we have and do some editing and reconfiguring."
Completely redesigning your home is not a reasonable fit for most budgets in this economy.
But, using a few design and decor tricks can help you create a new space with little to no cost.
Alber says an easy way to perk up a room is to start with the accessories.
Freshen up tired-looking decor by embellishing them. Adding a scarf or pin to a pillow is an easy and impressive change.
And slipcovers are inexpensive and a quick changes with big impact.
Physically recreate the space to make big improvement. Moving furniture or rearranging tables and chairs gives the eye something new to look at.
Even a simple pillows swap from one room to the other can add new life to a room.
And don't forget about organization!
Alber, who has made a living creating comfortable living spaces says one of the reasons people feel overwhelmed this time of year is due to the clutter left over from the holidays.
To tackle that problem, evaluate what needs to be thrown out and re-organized in your home. An organized home is an inviting home, not only to your family but others who visit.
Great looking tags, baskets, file-folders and containers are practical and decorative tools to get you motivated for oranization.
So, get to work one space at at time and start the New Year fresh, with beautifully organized closets and drawers and work and living spaces.
Then, push forward into the new year with the promise of a beautifully decoarted and organized home to last for months until the holiday boxes come out again!
