Despite higher taxes and a new law, smokers are still lighting up in Mohave County.

The rest of the state, however, saw drastic decreases.

A recent survey found about 35-percent of Mohave county residents are smokers, which remained unchanged from 2007 to 2008.

In contrast, the percentage of smokers in Coconino county dropped from about 18 percent in 2007 to about 8 percent in 2008.

Overall from 2007 to 2008, roughly 170-thousand Arizonans quit smoking.
