Sandy Willett has been fighting cancer for nearly a decade.

“I had three different oncologists tell me I might have two years to live,” said Willett. Doctors gave Willett the grim outlook after finding cancerous tumors in her throat and lungs.

After being diagnosed, a determined Willett sought out treatment options and found Cancer Treatment Centers of America. She said the hospital gave her a different diagnosis -- one of hope.

“I never heard anything about well, you're going to die. It was always we're going to do our best to give you a quality of life for the longest amount of time we can do,” said Willett.

She has been cancer-free for three years and credits the hospital’s staff and innovative technology for helping fight it.

“They have state of the art equipment here and their doctors are world renowned. They know everything there is to know about cancer and that's all they treat.”

Dr. Edgar Staren, the company’s Senior Vice President for Clinical Affairs, said new machines and technology help make treatments more precise. “We place small beads into the tumor."

"These beads feed back information to the radiation equipment so it will move according to the way a patient moves,” said Staren, while describing one of the hospital’s newest machines.

The hospital also prides itself on specialized, individual care saying it keeps patients with the same team of doctors and nurses. It also gives patients control of how they want to be treated.

“Most institutions end up looking at the doctor as the center of care, the hospital, or the providers. Here, the patient is at the center of everything we do, ”

The company’s newest facility just opened in Goodyear. It’s one of four CTCA’s in the country that specializes in cancer treatment.
