This time of year we love to get outside and play.

We take our kids to the park and enjoy a little fun in the cool weather.

But according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 60 percent of child injuries treated in emergency rooms in the U.S. each year are a result of falls from playground equipment.

Your kids will be playing with other kids on school and community playgrounds this fall and not always with your supervision.

So it’s important that you and your children are aware of some hidden dangers on the playground and things to be on the lookout for.

Wyatt Underwood, a safety expert, says some simple steps can keep everyone safe.

Here are the top safety reminders for parents to discuss with their children:

Is Equipment Safe to Use? Teach your child to make sure the equipment is safe and nothing is broken prior to climbing, sliding and swinging.

This can be easily done by taking them to a nearby playground one day and pointing out how to tell if equipment is broken, loose, or missing parts.

Inform your child not to use any equipment that appears loose or cracked and to let you know.
