PHOENIX -- Maricopa County Animal Care Control is preparing to start its "Adopt a Shelter Dog Month."

Starting Thursday October 1, and running through the entire month of October, MCACC is lowering the cost of adoptions.

All dogs can be adopted for $50 and cats are available for $25.

The fee includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination and an adoption starter kit.

MCACC says just last year over 57,000 animals were brought to the shelter.

Maricopa County Supervisors' Chairman Max Wilson is encouraging families to adopt in the month of October.

"Get out there and save a life," Wilson says. "Consider a shelter pet as the next addition of your household."

MCACC has two Valley locations:

2500 S. 27th Avenue
Phoenix, AZ 85009

2630 W. 8th Street
Mesa, AZ 85201
