We all know that Halloween is all about snacks, but all those sweets can be tough on your children’s health.

With all the Halloween sweets around, it can be hard to keep nutrition top of mind.

Dr. Tanya Remer Altmann author of Mommy Calls says parents can find fun ways to get nutritious foods into their children’s Halloween fun.

Try adding lowfat chocolate milk, to your kids’ diets at Halloween and all year round.

It has all the essential nutrients that you find in white milk, with a taste kids love.

Here are four other ideas to keep kids from over indulging in treats:

• To keep kids from snacking their way through trick-or treating, don’t send your kids out on empty stomachs.

Feed your kids a healthy meal or snack before parties and trick-or-treating to prevent your hungry monsters from digging into all of those sugary goodies.

• Serve tasty recipes like Minty Witch’s Brew at your Halloween party.

Or try Gobblin-Good Rice Pudding for a special Halloween breakfast.

Your kids won’t boo them because they’re delicious, but moms, you’ll love them because they are nutritious!

• Be creative with party favors and gifts for trick-or-treaters – there are lots of non-candy options you can give out without feeling like a ghoul.

Try nutritious snacks such as single serving fruit.

Another idea? Hand out non-food options such as bubbles, bouncy balls or temporary tattoos.

They last much longer than sugar snacks and kids will love them.

• Another fun idea, make your own Halloween themed Milk Mustache ad at whymilk.com to share with friends.

You can upload your photo, add a milk mustache and choose your spooky background.
