When you are out and about on the weekends at garage sales look for diamonds in the rough; something that might look kind of ugly to someone else but might have potential.
Lynda Hammond, the Garage Sale Gal shares six tips before you head to your next garage sale.
1.
Old Tables: Purchase an old table that with a little elbow grease can be spruced up with some sanding and painting.
2.
Old Wooden Frames: Buy something at a garage sale and give it a new and unique purpose like an old wooden picture frame.
Pick up one of these for a buck or two and add some handles, paint and tiles and turn it into a decorative tray to sit on a table or ottoman.
3.
Mink coats: A lot of us have mink coats that once belonged to grandma or great-grandma.
Typically they hang in our closet gathering dust. So, here’s an idea—make a pillow.
Use the fabric and even the buttons to make a nice pillow for your couch or bed. That way you’ll always have a great memory of your loved one.
4.
Old plates: If you see old, high-quality dinner plates at garage sales buy them. A steal is under 20 cents per plate.
Buy several and turn them into a 3-tiered dessert tray. Or break the plates and use them in a mosaic project.
5.
Old records: Use them to decorate for a party. We've actually heard that some people can turn these into purses.
Use them as coasters for under dinner plates.
6.
Jeans: Blue jeans are common at sales, too. A lot of people who have the talent to sew turn them into purses or aprons.
You never know when an opportunity for creativity will strike so when you’re at garage sales keep your eyes—and your mind—open and you’ll be surprised at what you can create.
