QUESTION
A couple of years ago, I got nervous about the future of the Stock Market and invested in gold based funds and stock. They are now up with everything else being down. Is now the time to sell the gold and buy into Stock Market? How close to the top of Gold and bottom of the rest are we?

EXPERT ANSWER
Gold and gold based funds typically do best during uncertain times, which certainly describes the decade we are in. You made a fairly shrewd move a couple of years ago, but can you guess when to get in and when to get out of the market successfully on a long-term basis?

The answer for most investors is no. Therefore, it is better to build a portfolio that includes cash, bonds, U.S. and International stocks-and invest for the long term. Even Warren Buffet won’t try and predict where the market will be next year!
