PHOENIX, AZ – As winter is due to sneak up on Arizona in the coming weeks, Southwest Gas is offering a new discount that will help curb some of the costs for heating bills.
The Low Income Ratepayer Assistance program will offer a 20 percent discount on gas usage beginning November 1 and ending on April 30.
The program will discount the monthly basic service charge to $7.50 and will apply the 20 percent discount to the first 150 therms of natural gas (roughly 100 cubic feet of burned energy) used per a month.
According to a news release, the program is only available to individuals whose total household income does not exceed the federal poverty level by 150 percent.
The limit that a two person household could earn in order to qualify for the program would be about $22,000 and about $33,000 for a four person household, according tot the company.
