Robert Vallelunga owns Acme Locksmith in Mesa.

He said as the economy worsens, commercial business is slowing down just as residential business is picking up.

Vallelunga added that people are primarily seeking lock system upgrades.

They are looking for locks that are pick-resistant and sturdier to take advantage of the latest technology.

While some Valley law enforcement agencies say the rate of burglaries are down, he said the people coming into his store are expressing a concern of what may happen in the future.

They are worried the slumping economy may prompt an increase in property crime over time, according to Vallenlunga.
