PHOENIX -- The US Labor department found that in June the number of long-term unemployed grew by 433,000 to 4.4 million people.

The Department defines long-term unemployed as “those jobless for 27 weeks or more” which is more than six months.

With more people looking to find work, finding a job can take longer, and many people are getting discouraged.

Joe Turner is a Phoenix-based job search consultant.

His advice to maintaining hope in your job hunt is to adjust your strategy for a better chance of success.

Turner said the number one mistake he sees is people trying to sell their skills.

He believes employers are much more interested in seeing results.

His suggestion, on your resume define how you have played a crucial role in helping your company save money or make money.

He said in this economy businesses are struggling to survive.

Every dollar counts and therefore it is your job to prove you are worth the investment because you can deliver on helping the company be productive.

That’s why he is urging job hunters to focus on their achievement.

Show that you are a natural problem-solver.

In an E-mail Turner wrote, “Although the news might seem grim on the job front, job hunters shouldn’t let the negative hype about the recession spook them into a state of panic. By revising their tactics to include a more solution-selling approach to employers, job hunters stand a better change of getting hired in today’s faltering economy.”

Turner’s final recommendation was to also seek out industries that are succeeding in this recession.
