Jude Law's performance in Hamlet on Broadway has overcome mixed reviews to officially become a "commercial success." Producers have already reportedly recouped the show's $2.5 million cost.

The British actor took on the role of Shakespeare's Danish prince for the second time this year, after transferring the show from London's West End to the Big Apple in September.

Broadway theatre critics were split over the actor's delivery, with Bloomberg News panning Law as "flashy, frequently jocular and unsubtle", while The Hollywood Reporter praised him for a performance "as intelligent as it is dynamic".

But producers are praising the cast and crew, because the show has become a hit three months after it debuted.

Producer Arielle Tepper Madover says, "It's heartening to see that Shakespeare can be a commercial success on Broadway, as well as seeing so many young audience members at the Broadhurst (theatre) experiencing their first Shakespeare production."

Law will star in the production until December 6th.
