On Saturday, July 11, nudists in more than 100 locations in the U.S and Canada took part in an attempt to be listed in Guinness World Records.
North of the Valley, the
Shangri La Ranch hosted one of two events in the area. A third was held at the
Mira Vista Resort near Tucson.
The skinny-dip event started at noon and participants showed up by 11:30 a.m. to get signed in. The cost to strip down for the record attempt was $10 per person.
Shangri La Ranch office manager, Patty Faber, said they counted 260 people who piled into the pool.
She said, "some of them are brand new nudists and some are home nudists who didn't know there were groups available, and thrillseekers, people with a 'bucket list.'"
Faber says the
American Association for Nude Recreation has 45,000 members nationwide. The organization was hoping at least 20,000 would show up at facilities around the country for Saturday mass skinny-dip.
