PHOENIX -- A new film debuting this weekend offers up a different theory about what happened in March 1997 when strange lights appeared above the Arizona skies.
Based on the "Phoenix Lights" that moved through Arizona on the night of March 13, 1997, independent film "The Appearance of a Man" is a sci-fi mystery about what witnesses saw as the lights moved through the state.
"I chose to keep this an Arizona production, not only because it was partially based on the Phoenix lights, but because there is great talent here," said Director Daniel Pace.
Here's the movie synopsis from the
Harkins Theaters website:
The night of March 13, 1997, strange lights were witnessed flying over the Phoenix sky. For years the lights have remained a mystery, which have led to a number of hypotheses, ranging from UFOs to military exercises to weather balloons. But there was something more. That night, under the cover of strange lights in the sky, a "man" appeared in Phoenix unleashing a series of mysterious events. Who was he? Where was he from? Why did he come? This is the story of the Appearance of a Man and the Phoenix Lights Mystery.'Phoenix Lights' of different descriptions were seen across hundreds of miles over a 12-hour period in 1997.
Some said they saw a triangular formation pass over their homes. Others saw a series of stationary lights in a long line.
The United States Air Force later identified the lights as flares from the Barry Goldwater Range, but many continue to believe differently.
The film is playing only at Harkins Valley Art Theater in Tempe.
