PHOENIX — The holidays are right around the corner and the City of
Phoenix is sponsoring an annual event to help make them a little brighter for Valley kids.
The annual Adopt-a-Family Program is back in full swing, and this year the City of Phoenix Human Services Department is asking you to be a family sponsor.
“Several years ago, the Human Services Department started the Adopt-a-Family Program,” Deputy Human Services Director Deanna Jonovich says. “It was really a way to brighten their holiday season.”
Jonovich says becoming a sponsor is really quite easy.
“We match the families with a sponsor and the sponsor receives a list of some of the things that the family is hoping to get during the holiday season. Then the sponsor buys the gifts for the family and the gifts are delivered,” she said.
Jonovich says because of the current economy, she thinks there will be more families in need this year.
“We are hoping that the community will come forward and again help us out with the families that we are working with,” she says.
Last year, nearly 500 families were adopted through the program.
