TEMPE, AZ -- Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz is back at ASU Gammage and there are seats in the first two rows waiting for you!
For every performance of Wicked, from July 1-16, there will be a lottery drawing 2 1/2 and half hours before show time at the ASU Gammage Box Office.
There are 20 available orchestra seats and, if picked, the lottery winners pay only $25 for each ticket!
Before opening night on Wednesday, July 1, a crowd of about 30 people showed up to throw their names into the box with hopes of being picked.
The crowd waited around anxiously to hear their names called out.
The first to be picked were mother-daughter winners Kathryn and Jenny Huisstede. The ladies had attempted to win the lottery three previous times when Wicked last performed at ASU Gammage in 2005, but had not succeeded. They were very happy that they were the first to be picked this time around.
Father-daughter winners Todd and Katja Smeltzer were all smiles as they said, “We’ll be back to do it again!”
Wicked has been traveling around the country and holding a lottery for every single performance.
There are no long lines to stand in or camping out, only a thirty-minute time period where anyone can write their name on a slip of paper and throw it in the lottery box.
You can go solo or buy up to two tickets, one for yourself and one for a guest.
If picked from the lottery, you have to present your I.D. and pay $25 for each ticket with cash only.
Company Manager of Wicked, Steve Quinn, says, “In this economy, this is the best price around.”
