PHOENIX, AZ -- Two acclaimed Phoenix eateries competed for a tasty title over the weekend: The Valley's best fried chicken!
The local favorites, one known for its unique contemporary American menu, and another known for their fried chicken and waffles teamed up for the friendly "throwdown" Sunday.
After 200 people voted,
Noca took home the prize for best fried chicken.
However, competitor
Lo Lo's Chicken and Waffles won for best sides: waffles and mac'n cheese.
Owner of Noca Eliot Wexler said his favorite fried chicken is actually at Lo-Lo's.
But Noca's fried chicken was earlier voted as having the best fried chicken by Phoenix Magazine. Lo-Lo's is owned by Wexler's friend and colleague Larry White.
"The first thing that I thought after hearing we had been awarded 'Best Fried Chicken' in town by Phoenix Magazine was whether my friend Larry 'Lo-Lo' White would let me come in and eat his fried chicken anymore," Wexler said in an email to patrons.
"Well, one thing has led to another and we are having a friendly fried chicken throwdown with Lo-Lo at noca," said Wexler of Sunday's festivities.
