Copper Star Coffee serves up a local vibe with great coffee, music, pastries, and an atmosphere that will have you coming back to this Phoenix neighborhood coffee shop.

Once an old gas station from the 1940s, Bill Sandweg and his wife took the gas station and transformed it into Copper Star Coffee.

It's located in the Melrose district on 7th Avenue north of Indian School Road.

With local artists displaying art on the walls, to local events pinned to a community calendar, Copper Star prides itself on local entertainment and events.

Sandweg wanted his customers to know:

As we are about to celebrate our third anniversary, Ginger and I feel that it’s important to thank those people who made Copper Star Coffee a success, Bill said.  "Thank you to all of our loyal customers.  That’s it.  It’s the customers that are ultimately responsible for the success of any business.

In my 21 years of restaurant operations, I have always believed that great food and warm service are the only two things that make or break any restaurant.  Our goal at Copper Star Coffee is to present the best coffee, freshest food in a friendly environment.

All of our pastries are baked on-site using whole, honest ingredients, this way, we can offer a fair price while maintaining maximum control over their quality.  We have a lady who roasts our coffee for us, so that’s fresh twice a week. I just pulled a batch of saltines out of the oven, to go with our homemade soup of the week.

When we built Copper Star, we worked very hard to use other local businesses.  We are especially grateful to Kurt over at Clayface studios for designing and building our glorious bathrooms.  When you come in, you need to look into both of them, because they are not the same at all!

If you’re looking for a great place to stop and smell the coffee, come on in and relax.  We’re open at 6 a.m. every day, and don’t close until 9 p.m. Sunday thru Thursday.  On Friday and Saturday night, we offer live music and we stay open until 11 p.m.
