It was a happy day around ABC15 when the announcement by Weatherate Inc. named the station as having the most accurate weather team for the second year in a row.

This seal of accuracy is perhaps any weather forecaster’s dream.

Weatherate Inc. monitors television stations in several cities around the country for accuracy by checking each station’s forecasted temperatures compared to the official daily temperatures during a one year period.

While weather is not always an exact science, the ABC15 weather team is once again ranked as Arizona’s most accurate.

Needless to say, the station wanted to get the word out to the viewers. The challenge was to find a fresh creative idea. The basic concept of the promotional spot was how to get weather people up in the weather and have a little fun at the same time.

From that starting point, happy clouds and floating weather people seemed to keep bubbling up among the creative team members.

Next, the specific production details needed to be ironed out. How will this concept become a reality? It was determined a green screen and full sized 12-feet trampoline would do the trick along with special attention to lighting and camera shutter speeds.

Today, in the high-tech age of movies and computer generated graphics, many people are familiar with green screens and how they work.

As a short definition, the green screen is electronically replaced with another background or scene. In this case, fluffy white clouds were used, which were also computer generated.

While the whole weather team was very supportive of the overall concept, there were concerns for safety and making sure everyone was comfortable.

To our surprise, when everyone took their turn on the big bouncy canvas, their true inner child was set free. Think about it, how often one has a work assignment where we just jump on a trampoline for a day?
