Amber Sullins Joins the ABC15 Weather Team

Last Update: 9/10 6:11 pm
Amber Sullins joins ABC15 News as a full time Meteorologist/Multi Media Journalist. Amber comes to ABC15 most recently from El Paso, Texas and station KVIA where she handled morning and midday weather duties for the past four years.

Amber is a Valley native from Tempe, AZ and a graduate of the University of Arizona. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science with minors in Math and Journalism. She previously worked for the National Weather Service where she performed data analysis and forecast statistics for the North American Monsoon Experiment. She is a certified broadcast meteorologist and a recent recipient of the AMS Seal of Approval.

Amber says, “I am thrilled to be returning home to the Valley of the Sun to join the ABC15 team and am really looking forward to being a part of the best weather team in town."

At KVIA Amber conceptualized her station's weather activity book for kids. And for two years she taught meteorology, forecasting and climatology at the University of Texas at El Paso’s Center for Lifelong Learning.

"I think the fact that she's now able to do weather and tell stories in the community where she grew up is the best situation of all," said News Director Joe Hengemuehler.

While in Texas, Amber was honored with two back-to-back Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Awards for Best Weathercasts in 2007 and 2008, and recognized again at the Texas Legislature for these awards in May of 2009 when a house resolution was passed in her honor.

The addition of Amber Sullins to the ABC15 Weather Team reaffirms ABC15’s commitment to quality, accurate weather coverage wherever it happens. Together with Desert Doppler15, the fastest radar in the Valley, ABC15 is the station to turn to for the best weather coverage.
