Nick VinZant joined ABC15 News in May 2013 as a Multimedia Journalist.
Growing up, Nick says he never thought about - or even considered - becoming a news reporter. He was interested in History, exploring the outdoors and people. It was only when he went to college at Kansas State University that an influential teacher suggested Nick give journalism a try. He’s loved it ever since.
Nick started his career in radio in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina where he did radio news for several stations and occasionally filled in as a D.J.
Nick then went on to work at KAKE-TV in Wichita, Kansas, where he was the first reporter on the scene after a deadly tornado destroyed Greensburg, Kansas in 2007. Nick won two associated press awards for his coverage and learned one of the true values of news, telling people what’s going on so they can have the information they need to stay safe.
Nick later moved to Orlando, Florida as a reporter at WKMG-TV where he spent several years covering everything from hurricanes and brush fires to Casey Anthony and space shuttle launches.
In his spare time, Nick enjoys taking long hikes with his dog Pucca, rock climbing and trying to find paddle boarding locations in the middle of the desert.
