Lauren Vargas joined the ABC15 News team as a Multimedia Journalist in September 2013.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Lauren is thrilled to be closer to home.
Lauren spent the last three years working at WKRG in Mobile, Ala. She started as an Online Producer and Web Reporter, and worked her way up to become Weekend Anchor and Field Reporter.
Lauren arrived on the job in the midst of the worst environmental disaster in the nation's history – the BP Oil Spill – which she covered extensively.
Her assignments ranged from extreme weather events, including hurricanes and tornadoes, to major local economic news, including Mobile's loss of the Carnival Cruise Line. One of her favorite assignments was covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
She graduated from the University of Missouri with a dual degree in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish. While studying at Mizzou, Lauren worked as a Reporter, Anchor, and Web Producer for KOMU in Columbia, Missouri.
During college, Lauren worked as a Producer, Anchor, and Marketer at Newsy.com, a news compilation website. She interned at several news outlets, including Entertainment Tonight and KCBS in Los Angeles.
Lauren now lives in Scottsdale with her husband, cat and dog. She comes from a loving and adventurous family and grew up waterskiing on Lake Mojave and snowboarding in California.
