Halloween craft you can make the day before your party. Angie Mozilo Author of AZ Mom of Many Hats Blog shared with us how to make some really cool ghosts!
Here's what you need to get started:
- Fabric such as muslin, cheesecloth or thin blanket batting
- Water
- White Glue
- Embellishments
- Frame or structure to build ghost on ie. Styrofoam or Soda bottle w/ a ball on top
How to make your ghost:
1. Cut 4 rectangles of fabric, two that are 4" longer and wider than the total front and back height and width of the frame. These will be draped over the front and back. Two smaller rectangles to hang over the arms.
2. Dip the fabric in pre-mixed water and glue. Use your fingers to remove most of the excess mixture from the fabric. For the muslin (used on the show) use a 1:1 ration water to glue. If you were using the batting or the cheese cloth you would use a 1:2 ratio of water to glue. (Thicker batting needs more because of its weightiness, thinner cheesecloth needs more to create structure)
3. Drape a smaller rectangle over each arm of the ghost. Then drape the larger ones over the top of the ghost. Use your hands to shape the fabric loosely to the form and to puddle the excess fabric of the ghost's skirt.
4. Set ghost aside to dry - it will take about 24 hours.
5. When dry, remove the ghost from the frame and you are ready to embellish it with sequins, beads, a marker - anything you'd like to give it a face and a personality. You want to use a quick drying glue such as a cool melt hot glue for this.
6. To make the ghost light up use battery operated cool LED votives.
And ta-da, you have your very own, home made spooky ghost!
